Batman 1966 Movie
After the success of the first season of the Batman TV series, producer William Dozier capitalized on the popularity and produced the Batman 1966 movie which was released in theaters by 20th Century Fox on July 30, 1966. The budget for this motion picture was more substantial than the TV show and they were able to add the Batcopter and the Batboat which were also used in season 2 and season 3. In addition, more villains were featured! All the original actors reprised their roles except for Julie Newmar who was unavailable and was replaced by Lee Meriwether.
This feature length Batman motion picture provided the same tongue-in-cheek, campy theme as the TV series and included 4 of Batman’s most popular adversaries; The Joker, Penguin, Riddler and Catwoman. Check out the trailer below with Adam West and Burt Ward and get ready for the Dynamic Duo to Batapult from your TV screen into movie theaters as stated by Robin.
The Batman motion picture was released on DVD many years before the Batman TV series was released. Due to contractual issues between the studios, it took almost 50 years before the TV series was finally released on DVD. The Batman film was unaffected by the contractual issues and was released on DVD in 2001. If you enjoy the Batman TV series, be sure and check out the movie.
